“For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12

We can feel like we’re near the end of our rope, that we’ve had more than enough. And that we can hardly go on. I can feel that way at times over this or that matter. And maybe over a number of matters pressed together. But we have the witness of the Apostle Paul, that when we are weak, then we are strong. Why? Because the Lord’s grace is sufficient for us, and God’s power is made perfect in our weakness. Just another paradox of the faith: When we are weak, then we are strong.

In Paul’s case he had no less than a messenger of Satan, a thorn in the flesh which tormented him. He pleaded to the Lord three times to take it away before the Lord’s answer came “loud and clear” to him. So that he could learn that this was part of his calling in following and being obedient to the Lord. That he was to accept this. And beyond that, he even learned to delight in such weakness, this time becoming more specific: “…weaknesses,… insults,… hardships,… persecutions,… difficulties.” He learned to embrace this, knowing that Christ’s power could then rest on him. For when he was weak, then he was strong.

A good and important truth for me to hold on to the rest of the way.
