wisdom needed

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

James 1

There are times and situations in one’s life, which try one’s soul. In which one can be in a quandary to know what to do. And there’s not necessarily any easy answer, and perhaps not even a wrong one. And yet the factors involved can be numerous and weighty.

We have God’s promise here that in the midst of such trials, God is generous in giving us wisdom if we ask in faith, and believe that he will. And a big part of this whole is our own spiritual growth and maturity.

It is perhaps most easy as well as understandable to want to escape the matter completely. But that’s a failure to consider it pure joy, and seek to grow from it, as well as find God’s wisdom in it.

A tall order, indeed. But part of our calling as those who are followers of Christ.
